Students go back to school

Monday is a big day for children in Guatemala! It's the first day of school for the new 2008 school year. This week parents have been busy buying supplies and registering their children. When we get there this summer it will be the middle of their school year, a perfect time for doing some exchange activities with a local class.

Families learning together

After taking groups of teachers to Guatemala for several years, I realized that families needed a group of their own when learning Spanish. Every year there were teachers that brought their children with them and they always had fun. However, it seemed like the experience could be so much richer if the morning activities were specifically planned for children. Museums and small shops are fun for adults, but children often find them to be very boring. Why not have kite making and mask making activities where the children could learn about the local Mayan culture, but have fun with other children at the same time? We will have ten days to have fun together and come away with a new language and very memorable experiences. There will even be an overnight trip to beautiful Lake Atitlán. We are limiting the group to 20 participants. That way the experience will be special for everyone. www.FamiliesLearnSpanish.info
